Rockin’ Blues is a growing element of the global vintage music scene as more and more people get switched on to the joy of Boppin’ The Blues. Like all things rockin’ Los Angeles is at the vanguard of this growth and Rhythm Bomb Records discovered this band via their new LA office last year and quickly got them into the studio to create the album “Savage Beat”.Recorded at: Kingsize StudiosRecording Engineer: Brian RosemeyerMastering: Crow PhantomAll tracks written by The Frantic Rockers except 1) I Wanna Boogie (Magic Sam), 2) Hoodooman Blues (Junior Wells), 4) Crying & Pleading (Billy Boy Arnold)For more info about the Frantic Rockers, CLICK HERE to see their profile page. Some online reviews of the album:The Rockabilly Chronicle:http://www.the-rockabilly-chronicle.com/frantic-rockers-savage-beat/Rhythm Bomb has just launched a LA branch and this one is one of the first two new release. And believe me firends, that’s what I call a hot platter. Beware it’s gonna burn your player down.Take some classic harmonica driven Chicago blues, add a good dose of neo-rockabilly (their upright bassist, Jorge, is really a frantic rocker) and sprinkle it with a punkish attitude reminiscent of the Sonics or the Downliner Sect, and maybe you’ll have a close idea of how this four guys from Los Angeles sound. The rhythm section is tight as hell, powerfull slap bass with Diddley beat, their guitar player is an ace and the singer has the perfect gravelly and threatening voice.I couldn’t recommand this album enough.Slams Reviews 2:http://reviewsbyslam.blogspot.ie/2014/12/frantic-rockers-savage-beat-2014.htmlOne of the biggest surprises of 2014 has been the emergents of the Frantic Rockers, this young LA blues rock band has caught on in a big way with the rockabilly community. Also surprising is that they signed on with Rhythm Bomb Records a label you really don’t associate with the blues. That was and is a smart move by both camps. Hell from all accounts they blew the lid off the joint at this years Viva Las Vegas .One thing for sure is that the Frantic Rockers are one killer band that play hard driving blues with rockabilly overtones and with a bit of punk attitude. All this leads us to the band’s debut album “Savage Beat ” and this puppy totally kicks butt.We get 13 tracks (10 originals) that push hard and deliver the goods. This is “rockin’ blues” that hits the nerve bang on. You can’t help but to be impressed with the guitar and harp playing here as well as whole execution of the songs. This is one tight band. Highlights include: “All Through The Night”, “I’m Gone”, ” Have Some Fun Tonight” and ” Rumors”.Some of the album tracks:
The Wolverhinos – Love Runs Out (2017) CTR708 Catty Town Records
The idea of contemporary songs being covered in a rockabilly style isn’t new, but The Wolverhinos give it a unique twist by claiming to play the original versions.
Instead of merely changing the instrumentation and the rhythm of a song, The Wolverhinos reinvent it down to the writing, while still maintaining its artistic core.
Back in the 1950s, songs rarely had a middle 8, harmonic progressions consisted of 3 major chords and dynamic changes were sparse. The Wolverhinos take these parameters into consideration when „wolverhizing” a new song.
To be eligible, a song has to be a classic of some sort, either having stood the test of time, or simply by the quality of its composition.
(Click on the image above to go to Full Band Page)
So when it kicks off, you know you know the song, but often you just can’t put the finger on it. You can hum along, you even remember the lyrics, but it stays in the back of your brain, driving you mad, until you recognize the chorus. Aaaaaah, right. That’s what we call the Wolverhino effect.
But even if you don’t care about the pseudo-scientific approach of The Wolverhinos, and even if you don’t get the joke, the band still kicks ass with their unique blend of Rockabilly, R’n’ B and Country.
Their 2017 debut CD „Love runs out“ on Catty Town Records contains 14 songs, all recorded live at the vintage studio Black Shack Recordings in Calw, Germany.
It contains quite a variety of vintage styles, from boom-chicka-boom country songs and straight forward rockers to r&b jivers and even some chess-style blues, which makes the CD very interesting for DJs and everyone with a broad taste of american roots.[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjQSuKheRoI[/embed]

HERE ARE JUST SOME OF THE REVIEWS OF THIS ALBUM –
“Very Smooth and Swinging, the boys have got some style that’s for sure.”
Del Villarreal, Rockabilly DJ Go Kat Go, Motorbilly Radio.
“From the beginning, this CD just plan sounds good: all the instruments, and the vocals, are well recorded, and in the right place in the mix. There’s an overall clarity and warmth to the sound, which really showcases the band’s sense of dynamics; it’s obvious some real thought has gone into the arrangements of the songs.”
Dave Schroeder, CD reviewer for “Western Swing Music Society”
“Your album is brilliant, one of the best of the year, will be at the top of our radio.”
Chema Valbuena, DJ Rockin’ Therapy Radio.
“With their debut record, Out Of The Past, The Palomars prove that a new generation of Canadians are just as capable of understanding these roots genres and delivering their own brand of it with authentic sincerity.”
Buster Fayte, Rockabilly Blogger (www.rockabillyromp.com)
THE BAND –The band was formed in 2011 by lead singer/steel guitarist Tom Hammel and upright bassist Ken Wilson to follow their love of ’40s and ’50s musical and cultural styles. This just seemed natural for Ken who also runs a business selling ’50s rockabilly wear and for Tom, who’s love of the steel guitar led him to explore musical styles from that era. Tom notes, “I was surprised how the band’s initial rockabilly focus led so easily to other styles that were influenced by jazz and western swing, but without losing their edge”. Part of the bands signature sound is the twin harmony lines played on steel guitar and electric guitar.
The band has been playing locally in Vancouver and has connected with local swing dance groups which was a natural connection for the band. After a recent gig with the Atomic Radio Productions Swing group, DJ J.F.Sebastian commented, “You guys knocked it out of the park and had the dance floor hopping and honky-tonkin’ all night long”. That’s in large part due to the bands swinging rhythm section with drummer Sandy McNair and bassist Ken Wilson who have been playing together in various bands for over 20 years.Spurred by the interest in the debut CD, the Palomars have released 3 singles and are working on more new material with the goal of another album soon.
“What it comes down to for us,” remarks Tom, “Is that we really dig what we’re doing, and we’ve brought a lot of people along with us on a historical musical journey. We know rockabilly isn’t a mainstream form of music, but that’s fine because it was always intended as a form of rebellion.
“The Palomars are:Tom Hammel – Lead vocals and steel guitar, Ken Wilson – Upright bass,Sandy McNair – Drums.

The first thing to say about this Vinyl EP is its beautifully packaged with a very nice 50’s style graphic design job by Cool Chica Design and it is just a lovely item to hold, a CD just can’t match it aesthetically.Onto the music and it doesn’t disappoint, if the graphic design is authentic then it is matched in that department in the 50’s style rockabilly in the grooves. I believe the four songs contained were originally released as two single’s with the A-side of Hollywood Hop and Nobody’s Boppin’ Tonight originally from 2013 while the two songs from the other side Red Head and All Right, All Right recorded in 2014. Recording dates are un-important anyway as this music is timeless, it could have been recorded in 1957. All four songs are uptempo slices of dance floor bop and jive with great guitar and bass accompaniment throughout, we particularly like the excellent guitar work by Rolf Hortogs on All Right. All songs are originals and are written in the classic 50’s style by the band with RJ himself involved in all songs. These would have been nice buys as two singles, but together as an EP, they are an essential purchase for any serious fan of authentic 50’s Bop, find a copy!!

Late 2015 release on Rhythm Bomb Records by California based band Lil’ Mo & The Unholy Four.
Just love this description of the band from their Facebook page –Born in the death house of Parchment Prison Farm, and sired by werewolves, The Unholy Four are a quartet of hell-raising hooligans bent on giving the devil his due by making unearthly noise up and down the west coast! Santos De Leon and Randall Stanton hold down the back beat and bass fiddle, while up on six strings, “Spanish” Mike Sobieski, creates devilish licks and leads. All of this fury is caught in a catchers mitt, shines up with black tar and thrown with a wicked curve by the redneck high screeching sound of one “Lil Mo” Everett, on loan to Lucifer from the fabulous Los Angeles doo-wop octet, The Dynaflos. After sippin’ some of Grandpappys sippin’ shine and sitting on a thumbtack or two, the sound that a-comes out of the jerry-rigged amplification is a harmonious horror-fest of good old East Texas rockabilly and Louisiana swamp blues, with just a hint of Grand Old Opry on the side.WARNING: This is the devils music, liable to make young folks want to copulate in the street, or at least dance real close in dark environments. No one under 3 years of age will be admitted onto the dance floor!!!Some live performances of album tracks –

This is the new (2015) album from one of the fastest rising Rockabilly bands in Europe. It was released on Rhythm Bomb Records recently and is doing very well for the band. This writer DJed just before they took to the stage at the 2013 Rockabilly Rave and saw them up close and personal. They are a quiet bunch but very very good musically, they looked very focussed on the day and performed very well.Some band and album info;Band members are Carolinn Rottman (Vocals/R Guitar), Sebastian Rottmann (Lead guitar), Marco Mass (DB), Stefan Durrbeck (Drums)Guest Musicians: Miss Lily Moe (vocals), Rene Rottmann (Guitar on T7), Sascha Kommer (Piano on T8 & 9).Writing Credits: All songs are originals written by the band except T7 which is a cover of an old Patsy Cline Rocker.Here is another track from the album;

Who are Gone Hepsville?Good things sometimes take time. The six boys from the city of Brno (CZ) spent the last decade rockin’ together in a rock’n’roll revival band, learning the ins and outs of the genre from the masters like Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, The Treniers, Jimmy Cavello, Freddie Bell or The Big Six. After 10 years, they decided it was time to move into somewhat more demanding territory and formed a pure & authentic jiving combo called GONE HEPSVILLE. And it was well worth the wait. They write their own songs, they arrange them in a ways that make them totally irresistible, but, most importantly, these cats are here to get you jumpin’ on the dance floor like crazy for the next 10 years at least. So you better get going, because everyone else has already gone. GONE HEPSVILLE.The Hepsvillians are: Petr Pospíšil (bass), Pavel Štursa (guitar), Petr Janovský (tenor sax), Pavel Zlámal (baritone sax), Jiří Hutárek (piano), Petr Štefaník (drums). What is Lotsa Rhythm?

TAKING ORDERS NOW!!Sam Cooke…. singer, songwriter, producer. When Sam Cooke replaced tenor R.H. Harris as lead singer of Gospel group The Soul Stirrers in 1950, nobody could have known what an impact this young man would have on the course of Rhythm & Blues, Soul and Popular music in general. He had it all, charisma, looks and most importantly an abundance of talent. Under Cooke’s direction The Soul Stirrers signed to Specialty Records releasing their first record for them “Jesus Gave Me Water” in 1951. Whilst at Specialty Records, Cooke made the transition from Gospel to secular music recording under his own name, produced by Robert “Bumps” Blackwell. However, Specialty Records founder Art Rupe, was unhappy in the musical direction the pair were moving in. Rupe had expectations of a “wilder” Rock ‘n’ Roll sound, similar to that of their recording star Little Richard.Cooke and Blackwell left Specialty Records in 1957 and began recording with Keen Records, their first single being “You Send Me” became a number 1 hit on the R&B charts and the Billboard Hot 100. They’d not only succeeded in making the transition from Gospel to Rhythm & Blues, they’d also succeeded in establishing Cooke as an artist with a huge appeal to both the black and white record buying public. When Cooke moved from Keen Records to RCA in 1960, his first hit single “Chain Gang” reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. After almost a decade of hard work and pure determination to succeed, Cooke was now able to diversify founded his own record label, SAR Records, with his friend J.W. Alexander. Cooke and Alexander had known each from their early days as Gospel performers. SAR Records allowed Cooke to expand his artistic abilities as a writer and producer and would act as a vehicle to develop new up and coming black recording artists during a time of racial unrest.SAR RECORDS – THAT’S WHERE IT’S AT (VTRLP2037) features 12 recordings previously released on 45 rpm singles on SAR Records. Despite Cooke’s fame, SAR Records material has remained relatively hard to find over the years and compilations are scarce. This collection has it all from gutsy floor-fillers to smooth Gospel to down ‘n’ dirty Rhythm & Blues gems. This is the label that helped to kick start careers from for the likes of Bobby Womack, Lou Rawls and Billy Preston, as well as support established artists like The Soul Stirrers. This beautifully presented 10” vinyl album comes with stunning artwork, label shots and most importantly incredible music. Includes music from Patience Valentine, Johnnie Morisette, L.C. Cook (Sam’s younger brother), Simms Twins, The Soul Stirrers, The Valentinos, Jacki Ross and of course Sam Cooke.
